Brought to you by DynCorp International

    Name: Brett A. Wells
    Title: Recruiter
    Company: DynCorp International
    Location: Irving, Texas

Monster: What led you to choose a career in your field?

Brett A. Wells: I was in law enforcement for 11 years prior to joining DynCorp International, and I was really interested in the International Police Mission program. After what occurred on September 11, 2001, I wanted to be included in what was happening overseas.

M: What led you to your current position?

BW: I had the privilege of working in the International Police Program as a K-9 handler in Iraq and later as a DynCorp International site manager in New Orleans after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. When I successfully completed the Katrina mission, I was offered a job as a recruiter for the International Police Program in the Irving, Texas, office of DynCorp International.

M: What do you do in your position?

BW: I recruit law enforcement personnel for the International Police Programs in Iraq, Afghanistan and Sudan. Along with recruiting, I am responsible for the vetting and qualifying of all resumes that are sent to the CIVPOL Recruiting Unit of DynCorp International.

M: Could you bring us through your typical day?

BW: I am the primary point of contact for applicants who call in on the toll-free lines. This keeps me very busy assisting applicants in making the right decision regarding their participation in the International Police Program. I also spend time qualifying and approving incoming resumes and entering their information into our recruiting system. I also coordinate and manage all the job postings to the Internet job Web sites.

M: What have been the biggest rewards in your career?

BW: The most rewarding aspect of my job is the people I have met along the way. The International Police Program has also given me the opportunity to travel and experience cultures and environments I would never have access to otherwise.

M: What are some of the challenges you enjoy in your job?

BW: I enjoy talking about and explaining the mission criteria to law enforcement officers throughout the United States and assisting them in making the difficult decision to join an overseas international police mission.

M: What do you like most about working for your company?

BW: DynCorp International has made it possible for me to progress in a career outside of law enforcement. I also have the opportunity to meet and talk with law enforcement officers from around the country.

M: What's the best advice you could give to someone looking to get into your field?

BW: I would advise them to carefully consider their life options in order to determine if their skills and expertise are a good fit for an international police mission. They should ask all the questions they can think of and examine all the information available for each mission. Most importantly, they should make sure all their family matters are in order, and they have their family's complete support for participation in an overseas mission.

M: What do you look for when you interview people on behalf of your company?

BW: Honesty and integrity. Every candidate should be 100 percent honest about what they have done and where they plan on going. The International Police Program is a challenging assignment, and the qualified candidate is someone who can handle the separation well and overcome any adversities they may face when entering the mission.
