If you're going into an analytical field, such as accounting, economics or finance, you'll need to wow them with your problem-solving abilities, but don't forget to let them know you're a schmoozer too.

The fact that you're a brilliant analyst should be a given if you're going into the analytical field. If you want to set yourself apart from the competition during an interview, talk about your people skills. Sure, accountants, economists and finance analysts need to understand spreadsheets, balance accounts and compliance, but computers are doing much of the number crunching today. Successful accountants -- particularly in public accounting -- are comfortable speaking before groups and writing about their findings. They charm clients at lunches and dinners, and they work and play well with a wide variety of people on company teams and with the client company's employees.

So to set yourself apart, you must first assure your interviewer that you have the analytical skills that form the basis of your accounting, economics or finance job. Then sell yourself as someone who is also smooth and charming, a people person who will get along with clients and coworkers. Be ready with a couple of examples to demonstrate these skills, and you're sure to wow your way into the job.
